A labourer named Biyang Singh lost his home in the floods. He had also lost his wife the previous year and was raising his children alone. The foundation took up the task of rebuilding his house. Sood credited Malvika for overseeing the work on this particular home.
180 of 250 homes completed
According to Sood, the floods left many families in Punjab without shelter. The Sood Charity Foundation, working alongside the EKL team, set a target of rebuilding 250 homes for affected families. So far, 180 homes have been completed. The remaining 70 are still under construction. Once finished, all 250 families will have new houses to live in.
Sood said the foundation had been working continuously to support families left in difficult conditions after losing their homes. He added that many people and groups had come forward to help during the crisis.
Instagram post
Sood shared a video documenting the visit on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote that the floods damaged homes but not the resolve of the families affected. He said the foundation built the structures while the families’ own efforts and faith built the homes back into something livable.
The post showed Sood and Malvika meeting residents in Kalla village, including families who received new houses under the rebuilding programme.
Punjab experienced severe flooding that displaced large numbers of families and damaged homes across several villages.
